A Full Day of Clay with Denby's Master Potter, Sean
For one day only: Tuesday 9th December at 9.30am-5.00pm
Celebrate the festive season with a special day of clay at Denby. Guided by our Master Potter, Sean (who has 15 years experience with Poole and Denby Pottery) you’ll spend a full day learning traditional hand-building techniques including slabbing, pinching, coiling, modelling, and pressing.
Together, you’ll create a collection of beautiful decorative clay pieces to display in your home all year round. From a twinkling tealight holder and a trinket tray to tiny woodland creatures, Sean will guide you step by step, whether its adding texture and detail or shaping a handmade hedgehog full of character.
Once finished, your pieces will be fired and glazed in a soft neutral white by our potters, ready to collect in the new year as a lovely reminder of your day and to keep and display in your home for years to come (please note we’re unable to offer postage).
This is a rare chance to learn directly from our Master Potter, and a wonderful way to treat yourself or a loved one to a creative, hands-on experience during the festivities.

"Visit our magical gardens,
be welcomed by Santa's elf.
Come with all of the family or even by yourself.
I think Santa might be sleeping,
so you'd better ring the bell
And in case he doesn't hear,
then knock on the door as well.
And when Santa opens the door,
he'll know just who you are
He knows every child all over the world,
no matter how near or far.
Step inside the workshop,
where Santa keeps all of the toys
choose your favourite and it shall be yours.”

New Miniature Clay Houses Workshop
Join us for a relaxing and creative workshop where you’ll make up to five individual miniature clay houses, each one shaped and finished by hand to form a unique little street scene, perfect for Christmas or to enjoy all year round.
Working with our Derbyshire clay and guided by one of our experienced potters, you’ll start by carving the basic shapes and rooftops from clay blocks. Using a variety of pottery tools, you’ll then add detail to each house, pressing in textures to form roof tiles, windows and doors.
After a short break for tea or coffee, you’ll begin applying colour using our soft glaze slips. These will enhance the textures you’ve created, and any exposed clay will be finished by our team with a gentle winter white glaze during the final firing process.
Your potter will be on hand throughout to offer guidance and share techniques for carving clean edges and adding texture that brings each house to life.
