New Miniature Clay Houses Workshop

Join us for a relaxing and creative workshop where you’ll make up to five individual miniature clay houses, each one shaped and finished by hand to form a unique little street scene, perfect for Christmas or to enjoy all year round. 

Working with our Derbyshire clay and guided by one of our experienced potters, you’ll start by carving the basic shapes and rooftops from clay blocks. Using a variety of pottery tools, you’ll then add detail to each house, pressing in textures to form roof tiles, windows and doors.

After a short break for tea or coffee, you’ll begin applying colour using our soft glaze slips. These will enhance the textures you’ve created, and any exposed clay will be finished by our team with a gentle winter white glaze during the final firing process.

Your potter will be on hand throughout to offer guidance and share techniques for carving clean edges and adding texture that brings each house to life.

Once your pieces are complete, they’ll be carefully kiln fired and finished by our team, ready for you to collect at a later date and display at home.

New Ceramic Seed Pod Workshop!

Enjoy a relaxing and creative session at Denby as you shape your own beautiful ceramic seed pod, a unique piece to display at home or in the garden.

Using our Derbyshire clay and guided by one of our experienced potters, you’ll learn the pinch pot technique to form the shape of your piece. You can then refine it with gentle curves and add surface detail using a variety of tools to create texture and character.

To finish, you’ll brush on a soft colour wash that gives a natural, matt effect and brings out the clay’s rustic beauty. Once complete, we’ll take care of the firing process in our pottery. Your finished ceramic seed pod will be ready to collect a few weeks later.

Join us to make your very own pinch pot pumpkin, ready for Halloween or to display in your home as a unique seasonal decoration.

Using Denby stoneware clay and under the guidance of one of our potters, you will learn the pottery techniques of pinching, joining and modelling to create your very own clay pumpkin. Your pumpkin will then be glazed by us after the workshop in a choice of autumnal colours.

 Join us with friends for a relaxing Crafternoon, where you’ll make a set of two decorative flowers from our Derbyshire clay, pottery tools and colourful slips. Once kiln fired, they’ll be mounted onto garden canes for you to brighten up your outdoor space.PRICE: £40.00 per person - This adult ( over 18 yrs)  craft workshop is perfect for all abilities and is fully accessible to everyone. 

What to expect on the day:

Our friendly team will start with a ‘how-to’ demonstration, and share lots of useful hints and tips along the way to help you get the most out of your workshop - you don’t need to be an expert to join us!

Then it’s over to you to make your own set of two ceramic flowers by following our templates and rolling and shaping our stoneware clay to create a 3D flower effect. Keep things simple or add extra detailing to the petals with our decorating tools before painting a layer of white slip over your flowers.

After a cuppa break, it’s time to let your imagination flow and add some colour to your creations with our pottery slip paints.

Left with our team, your clay flowers (one large and one smaller flower) will be fired in our kilns, ready to collect later to display in your spring garden. The garden canes are included too for you to assemble at home.

Join us in the run up to the festive season and create a beautiful seasonal decoration from our Derbyshire clay to add warmth and joy to your home or to use as a centre piece for your Christmas table. Your finished kiln fired and glazed creation will be ready to collect  in 6 -8 weeks.

Using a range of potter’s tools, festive cookie cutters (think candy canes, stars and Christmas holly) and a little Denby magic, let your imagination flow as you create a truly unique piece of pottery.

Get the inside tips from our clay experts on how to score, scratch, cut and form our Derbyshire clay. Our potters will also be on hand to guide you through the making process. Your finished clay wreath will then be glazed by us after the workshop in a wintery white glaze colour.

Creative Clay Fish Workshop
Join us for a relaxing and hands-on workshop where you’ll make your very own pair of ceramic fish — one big, one little — using our Derbyshire stoneware clay, pottery tools, and colourful slips. No experience needed, just come along and enjoy some creative time out.

What to Expect on the day: The session begins with a friendly demonstration from our team, showing you the steps and techniques you’ll use throughout the workshop. We’ll guide you through the process with plenty of tips and ideas, perfect whether you’re new to clay or just looking to try something different.

You’ll use slab-building techniques to shape and decorate your own set of two clay fish.

Follow our easy-to-use templates and add detail and texture with our decorating tools, then take a break for a cuppa before moving on to the fun part - colour! Use our vibrant clay slips to bring your fish to life with your own unique design or we have lots of ideas to inspire you.

After the session, we’ll kiln-fire your creations for you to collect at a later date to display at home as a reminder of your time with us.

Join us at Denby Pottery Village for a relaxing afternoon where you’ll create and decorate your own Clay Bird using Denby’s stoneware clay, bespoke stamps and colourful slips - makes for a lovely way to spend time with friends, family & loved ones.

Your finished Clay Bird will be clear glazed by us and collected by you after kiln firing (at a later date) to love and display around your home.

What to expect on the day:

Our friendly and expert team will guide you through the making process during this hands-on experience, you don’t need to have any previous experience to join us! 

Then it’s over to you to make your own decorative Clay Bird by following one of our templates and rolling and shaping our stoneware clay to create your design. Keep things simple or add extra detail with our bespoke stamps before painting a layer of white slip over your Clay Bird.

Join us with friends or enjoy some ‘me-time’ as you decorate a beautiful clay plant pot & dish (hand-thrown by our master potter, Sean ahead of your workshop). This is a 1.5- 2 hour workshop, where you’ll incise/mark your own design into our leather-hard clay using the tools provided. Once finished, we’ll fire your creations in your chosen Denby Kiln glaze colour. Collect when ready to brighten up your home.  

PRICE: £40.00 per person - This adult (Over 18 yrs) craft workshop is perfect for all abilities and is fully accessible to everyone.

What to expect on the day:

This workshop will provide you with plenty of design inspiration, a short demonstration on how to incise (decorate with pencil cuts) the leather-hard clay and equip you with all the tools you need to decorate your unique plant pot and dish. Our friendly Experience team will also be on hand to help guide you through this session.

You are more than welcome to come prepared with your own design ideas, patterns or drawings too.

On the day, you’ll sketch your design onto paper templates, and we'll then take you through the steps to decorate your plant pot & dish using a pencil to achieve the desired look. This is a calm and relaxing process that will provide a little quiet time.

You can also choose to add a functional drainage hole to the bottom of your plant pot or leave this sealed to use the pot and dish separately around your home (as a storage pot or trinket dish etc). 

Once finished, you can choose between 4 Denby Kiln glaze colours: taupe, ochre, slate and rust for us to glaze and fire in our kilns.

A FREE hot drink is also included.

Take some time out and join us for a relaxing workshop, where you’ll make a trio of nesting trinket dishes from our Derbyshire clay, fresh foliage, and colourful slips. We believe this workshop will provide a little quiet and self-care to escape busy life.

PRICE: £40.00 per person - This adult (over 18 yrs) craft workshop is perfect for all abilities and is fully accessible to everyone.

What to expect on the day:

You will be making three organically shaped and decorated trinket dishes using Denby’s Derbyshire stoneware clay, natural foliage, and Denby’s own coloured slip glazes.

Starting with a step-by-step demonstration, you will learn the techniques needed to create these dishes. Rolling out clay slabs, pressing foliage into the clay, which produces beautiful delicate detailed decoration, and then using our hump moulds to create the three dish shapes. The shapes descend in size so that the finished dishes will neatly nest within each other.

Once all three dishes are made, you can add some colour to enhance the decoration using our coloured slip glazes.

Please feel free to bring along some of your own foliage/flowers, if you would like to. We have found that foliage with deep veins and a spiky texture work well, and flowers such as gypsophila give the best results when pressed.

Once your dishes are fully dry the face of the dishes will be glazed and then fired.

Join us with friends for a relaxing Crafternoon filled with delicious cakes, sandwiches, bottomless hot drinks, and pottery painting! This session is suitable for adults only over 18 years 

Start your experience with a freshly prepared Afternoon Tea at Bourne's Coffee Shop & Bistro, followed by pottery painting in the Denby Craft Studio where you will decorate an 8 inch medium Denby plate (perfect for cakes and treats) using our colourful glazes. Let your imagination flow or be inspired by our selection of stencil designs. We will also have inspirational ideas, or bring your own prepared ideas to decorate your plate.

Once finished, leave your hand-painted plate with us to kiln fire and collect it in 3-4 weeks time to use and keep forever.

To make the most of your experience, please arrive in advance of the confirmed time. You're also welcome to paint additional pieces, if time allows (costs apply).

WHO’S IT FOR: This adult craft experience is perfect for all abilities.

NOTES: All materials, including an apron, will be provided on the day. As you will be working with paint, we advise you to wear something that you don't mind getting dirty.

There's also the option to have your finished plate posted out to you for an additonal £5 per item. Please speak to a member of the team on the day to organise this for you.

A fun and festive workshop to celebrate the most wonderful time of year with family and friends. Our popular Christmas Market is also happening in the event marquee, and is free to enter, making this a truly festive day out for everyone.

Join our good friend Darren, and expert from The Denby Garden Stall for a special, festive workshop where you’ll learn how to hand wire and arrange seasonal foliage and natural materials to decorate your own beautiful wreath.

This fun and friendly workshop starts with a ‘how-to’ hand tie a floristry bow, followed by an interactive demonstration as you add seasonal decorations to a pre-made spruce wreath base.

Take your beautiful wreath home on the day to place on your front door for the festivities. A hot drink is also included for you to enjoy at Bourne's Coffee Shop & Bistro.

PRICE: £50 per person

Perfect for all abilities. Also, suitable for children 14+ (under 16's need to be supervised by an adult).

TIME: This workshop will run for up to two hours. Upon arrival, please head to the Welcome Desk inside the Denby Craft Studio and collect your free drink voucher to enjoy before your Winter Wreath Workshop. This workshop will be held in the Discovery Room.

Visitor parking is available for free in our customer car park within easy reach of the Welcome Desk located inside the Denby Craft Studio.

NOTES: Please note that you will be using scissors and secateurs during the workshop to trim and cut the floristry wire and foliage.

Wreath hooks and wire lights will be available to purchase from the Garden Stall to add a finishing touch to your Christmas wreath.
