Join us with a loved one(s) and celebrate Valentine’s with our fun and memorable, ‘Ghost’ Pottery Throwing Experience. A guaranteed giggle as you create your own pot together on a single Potters’ wheel during this 45-minute experience.
Left in the skilled hands of our Potters, your Valentine’s pot will be kiln fired and finished in a beautiful Denby glaze ready for you to collect later and to keep as a memory of your experience.
PRICE: £120 per couple (ticket price is for 2 x people).
For £60pp you get to hand-throw a pot together on the Potters’ wheel, which will then be glazed, and kiln fired ready for you to collect later as a memento of your evening.
Any additional pots you create, can also be fired for an extra £10 each (paid for on the day).
NOTES: Please note that your 45-minute Pottery Throwing Experience will take place on one of our three Potters’ wheels, so your experience may be with other participants or, why not book with other couple friends.
Aprons will be provided, but please note that the pottery-throwing process can be messy, so any clothing may receive splashes of clay or get clay dust.
On occasion, some pots may crack or break in the kiln firing process, and this is beyond our control. In the unfortunate event that this should happen, we will contact you to discuss it.
BOOKINGS: Require a minimum of 72 hours’ notice
Unfortunately, refunds cannot be given for cancellations. Denby Pottery Village will make every effort to ensure that your Valentine’s ‘Ghost’ Experience goes ahead on the confirmed date and time. However, should unforeseen conditions prevail, an alternative date or time will be offered or a full refund given.

ARRIVAL: Upon arrival, please park in our free customer car park and head straight to the Denby Craft Studio, where you will be welcomed by our friendly team, or why not make the most of your evening by taking the bus or a taxi so you can enjoy a bottle of wine together.

- Any sleeves longer than the elbow must be rolled back leaving the forearms bare.
- All jewellery is to be removed from the hands and wrists (except for a wedding band). If a wedding band is kept on, then disposable Nitrile gloves will be available to wear.
- Any jewellery, neckties or scarves worn around the neck must be removed.
- Hair may have to be tied back if there is a risk of entanglement.
- Short nails are preferred as longer nails make the throwing process more difficult.
- Suitable footwear to be worn.

Using Denby clay and under the guidance of our experienced potters, you will learn various techniques to create your own bowl. Perfect for all abilities, this experience introduces pottery throwing, while you create your own pot to be proud of.
You are very welcome to bring somebody along to the experience, to take photos and give encouragement. Or why not book an experience for two or three people, where you can use our three potter's wheels at the same time? (Max number of 'participating throwers' is three per class. If you book a space for one person, please note that the second and third space may be filled by another participant).
Left in the skilled hands of our potter, your hand-thrown pot will be fired and finished in your chosen Denby glaze colour (Matt grey, Chalk White or Imperial Blue) ready to collect within 6-8 weeks. There’s also the option to have your item posted out to you for an additional £5, which can be organised with the team during your visit.

WHO’S IT FOR: Suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners. Budding potters must be a minimum of 3ft 6 and under 16's must be supervised by an adult. This would be suitable for 8 years and over. Please note that if you are booking for one person, there may be other participant present during your experience
Pregnant women may find operating the Potters’ wheel uncomfortable and restrictive but may take part at their own risk. We advise that anyone who is pregnant, should consult with their physician before booking onto a Pottery Throwing Experience. Please ensure that the instructing Potter is made aware on the day of your visit so that any adaptions can be made.
Please note: There are electric motors within the pottery wheel and customers with pacemakers should always consult with their physicians first when using motor-run or electronic products.

This fun and creative session with one of our experience potters is perfect for budding potters who would like to 'have a go' on the Potters’ wheel and learn the basic steps of hand-throwing a pot. This booking is for ages 8 -16 yrs only.
During this 20-minute session, your child will experience what it’s like to 'have a go' at throwing, from centring the clay, opening out and pulling up the walls to make their own bowl. Take their pot away on the day to air-dry at home and paint if they wish.
Please note that their hand-thrown pot will not be kiln fired or glazed. However, our alternate Pottery Throwing Experience is recommended if you would like to make a hand-thrown pot and have it kiln fired and finished in a Denby glaze. This is a more in-depth experience and builds upon the skills learned from this session.
WHO’S IT FOR: Suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners. Budding potters must be a minimum of 3ft 6 and over 8yrs of age please. Under 16's must be supervised by an adult.

Book nowJoin us for a new 2-hour Pottery Throwing Experience with our Master Potter, Sean, who boasts many years of experience in the pottery industry. Under his expert guidance and using our Derbyshire clay, you'll explore various techniques on the Potters’ wheel to throw tall items such as small vases, planters or mugs.

Sunday 12th January 10am-12 and 1.30 - 3.30 and Thursday 16th January 1.30-3.30
Thursday 6th and 12th February at 1.30-3.30

WHAT TO EXPECT: This is the ideal next step for those with basic pottery throwing skills or for those who have previously completed a Pottery Throwing Experience with us. You'll begin by making tall cylinder shapes and then with Sean's assistance you can have a go at making more ambitious shapes.
Feel free to bring someone along to take photos and offer encouragement as you craft your masterpiece. Alternatively, consider booking an experience for two people, where you can use our two potter's wheels at the same time. Please note that each class can accommodate a maximum of two participating throwers. If you book a space for one person, the second space may be filled by another participant.
Once your hand-thrown pot is complete, our master potter will kiln fire and finish your pot in your chosen Denby glaze colour (either Pebble Blue or Kiln White). Your finished piece will be ready for collection within 6-8 weeks.
Complete your 2-hour Pottery Throwing Experience with a free cuppa at Bourne’s Coffee Shop & Bistro.
PRICE: £90 per person for 2 hours experience, with a minimum of 90 minutes on the wheel.
