Starts Saturday 24th May - Sunday 1st June 2025

Looking for something fun and crafty to do with the kids over the May Half Term holidays? Come and join us at the Denby Craft Studio for our fun farmyard themed clay, paint and craft activities.

Book your space and then choose from one of the following activities per child on the day of your visit, subject to availability:

1. Paint a Farmyard Themed Plate: Using our colourful glazes, hand-paint or stencil a farmyard or spring-themed design onto one of our Medium Denby plates (8 inches). Leave it with us to fire in our kilns and collect when ready to use and love forever. £14 (pay on the day, usually £15.95).

OR

2. Make a Clay Farm Animal: Let their imagination run wild as they create a Highland Cow or Pig from our Derbyshire clay. Take it away on the day to air-dry and paint at home. £7 (pay on the day).

OR

3. Craft a Wooden Farm Scene or Piece together a Colourful Tractor Kit: Using the kits provided follow the instructions to build your own items and decorate your creation with stickers, paint or felt tip pens, depending on your choice of kit. Take it home on the day. £7 (pay on the day, subject to availability).

 OR

4. Paint a Father’s Day Mug: Paint a Denby Mug using our colourful glazes and leave it with us to fire in our kilns. Collect when ready to gift in time for Father's Day. £10 (pay on the day).

Note: Last day 1st June to have this item ready to collect before Father's Day.

OR

5. Paint a Fun Pottery Shape: Choose from our selection of fun pottery shapes (including some new farm animals) and add some colour using water-based paints to take home on the day. Once home, you can use a clear varnish to make your item glossy. Please note that items will not be kiln fired. Prices start from £8 per item (pay on the day).

 

This ticket confirms your space in the Denby Craft Studio and the £2.50 cost will be deducted from your final activity price on the day. Please ensure to book a space for all attendees, including anyone who isn’t participating in an activity (recommended age is 3+ years). Children must always be supervised by an adult(s) and a minimum of 1 adult per 3 children is required.

 

ADDITIONAL Farmyard Trail: There’s also the option to book an additional ticket for our farm themed trail around Denby Pottery Village. Find the pictures and see if you can answer all the farm-themed questions. Collect a free chocolate treat (or fruit alternative) at the end. Tickets for the trail are £3 per child and must be purchased in conjunction with a craft session.

Plan ahead for lunch and pre-order a Kids Meal Deal (to eat in or takeaway). Suitable for up to 10 years and includes half a cheese or ham sandwich, a packet of Pombears, a juice carton, an apple or banana and a small packet of Haribo sweets. Collect from Bourne’s on the day of your visit and show your ticket to a member of the team at the till point. £5.95 per child.

TIME: Choose from the available session times. Your chosen craft session lasts for 50 minutes. If you need longer, please also book the following session to make the most of your experience. 

Notes: All activities are self-led, but our friendly team will be on hand to offer any support. If time allows, you are also welcome to paint-a-pot or enjoy another craft activity during your 50-minute experience. Additional costs apply and can be paid for on the day.

- We will be getting creative with paint, pens and clay and therefore recommend that children wear items they don't mind getting messy.

- Children must always be supervised by an adult(s) and a minimum of 1 adult per 3 children is required. Please also refrain from eating inside the Denby Craft Studio, thank you.

- Denby Pottery Painting: The following Denby glaze colours, violet and bluebell blue contain a degree of cobalt which is an allergen.

- Denby Craft Activities: some activities may include use of feathers or balloons please make us aware of any allergies before your visit.

Visitor parking is available for free in our customer car park within easy reach of the Welcome Desk located inside the Denby Craft Studio.

Upon arrival, please head to the Denby Craft Studio and show your tickets (on your mobile or print out) to a member of the team.

However, should unforeseen conditions prevail, an alternative date or time will be offered where possible or a full refund will be given. Unfortunately, this event is non - transferable and refunds cannot be given for cancellations.

 

Our great selection of shops are open every day (except for Christmas Day and Easter Sunday) between 9am – 5pm (Monday – Saturday) and 10am – 4pm on Sundays for you enjoy during your visit. 

There is also a choice of two eateries (Bourne's Coffee Shop & Bistro and The Farm Shop Café) serving a wide variety of homecooked dishes, breakfasts, homemade cakes, drinks and more.

'Have a Go' Pottery Throwing - £15 May Half-Term Special 2025 'Have a Go' Pottery Throwing - £15 May Half-Term Special 2025 This fun and creative session with one of our experience potters is perfect for budding potters who would like to 'have a go' on the Potters’ wheel and learn the basic steps of...

This fun and creative session with one of our experience potters is perfect for budding potters who would like to 'have a go' on the Potters’ wheel and learn the basic steps of hand-throwing a pot. This experience is for ages 8 -16 yrs only.

During this 20-minute session, your child will experience what it’s like to 'have a go' at throwing, from centring the clay, opening out and pulling up the walls to make their own bowl. They can take their pot away on the day to air-dry at home and paint if they wish.

Please note that their hand-thrown pot will not be kiln fired or glazed. However, our alternate Pottery Throwing Experience is recommended if you would like to make a hand-thrown pot and have it kiln fired and finished in a Denby glaze. This is a more in-depth experience and builds upon the skills learned from this session.

 

WHO’S IT FOR: Suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners. Budding potters must be a minimum of 3ft 6 and over 8yrs of age please. Under 16's must be supervised by an adult. 

 

PRICE: £15 per person (Half-Term Special)

Usual Price: £17 per person.

 

SAFETY: Please ensure that the following safety guidelines are adhered to for your safety during this exciting experience.

  • Any sleeves longer than the elbow must be rolled back leaving the forearms bare.
  • All jewellery is to be removed from the hands and wrists with the exception of a wedding band. If a wedding band is kept on then disposable Nitrile gloves will be available to wear.
  • Any jewellery, neckties or scarves worn around the neck must be removed.
  • Hair may have to be tied back if there is a risk of entanglement.
  • Short nails are preferred as longer nails make the throwing process more difficult.
  • Suitable footwear to be worn.

Please note: There are electric motors within the pottery wheel and customers with pacemakers should always consult with their physicians first when using motor-run or electronic products.

ARRIVAL: Upon arrival, please park in our free customer car park and head straight to our Welcome Desk inside the Craft Studio.

 

ACCESSIBILITY: Please let us know in advance if any of your party members have accessibility requirements.

 

NOTES: This Denby Experiences needs to be booked online 24 hours in advance or alternatively, you can call our welcome desk on 01773 740799 option 9, open 10am - 4pm for availability. This experience is in a shared space and other craft activities may be running at the same time.

Please note that this is a 20 minute one to one session and your hand-thrown pot will be taken home to air dry on the day.

Our alternate Pottery Throwing Experience is recommended if you would like to have your hand-thrown pot kiln fired and finished in a Denby glaze. This is a 45-minute session and builds upon the skills learned from this taster session.
