Come and get creative in the Denby Craft Studio with a choice of pottery painting and clay craft activities for everyone:

Please note that all of our Denby Experiences need to be booked online, You can book your tickets up to an hour before your preferred session time, too! Alternatively, you can call our welcome desk on 01773 740799 option 1 between 10am-4pm for availability.

• Paint fun pottery shapes in our colouful water-based paints and take home on the day
  Choose from our selection of fun pottery shapes to colourfully paint in your own design using water-based paints and take home with you on the same day, a popular choice for children. Once home, you can use a clear varnish to make your item glossy. Please note that items will not be kiln fired. Prices start from £8 per item.
   
• Paint onto Denby using colourful glazes, we'll kiln fire for you to collect at a later date
  Create your own pottery piece to be proud of using one of our versatile Denby ceramics and colourful glazes (choose from a selection of plates, mugs, bowls and jusgs), perfect for adults and children to create personal pieces to love or to gift. Leave with us on the day to kiln fire your painted piece, ready to collect at a later date to display or use at home every day. There’s also the option to have your item posted out to you for an additional £5, which can be organised with the team during your visit. Prices start from £12.95 per Denby item

• Play with Clay
  Let their imagination run free using our local Derbyshire clay, moulds and fun crafting tools. Once dried to a light grey, which can take a few days of natural air drying at home, bring their creations to life with colourful paints or vanish. A popular choice with children. £7 per person

Please note that this is an admission ticket to confirm your experience space(s) in our Craft Studio. All craft activities are to be chosen and paid for on the day. The £2.50 per person admission cost will be deducted from your final activity price and any overpayment will be refunded.

Who’s it for: These family-friendly experiences are suitable for everyone and fully accessible for wheelchair users. Please ensure to book a space for all attendees - including any adults or children who are not participating. During some events these tickets maybe limited.

Time: Last entry time to paint is 3pm. Sessions are 50 minutes each on the hour between 10am - 4pm every day. Your Craft Studio Experience lasts 50 minutes and if you would like longer, please feel free to book for multiple sessions.

Notes: Please note that on occasion, some pots may crack or break in the kiln firing process and this is beyond our control. In the unfortunate event that this should happen, we will contact you and advise of the options available.

As you'll be getting creative with Denby glaze colours or acrylic paints, we recommend wearing items that you don't mind getting messy.

Take some time out and join us for a relaxing workshop, where you’ll make a trio of nesting trinket dishes from our Derbyshire clay, fresh foliage, and colourful slips. We believe this workshop will provide a little quiet and self-care to escape busy life.

PRICE: £40.00 per person

What to expect on the day:

You will be making three organically shaped and decorated trinket dishes using Denby’s Derbyshire stoneware clay, natural foliage, and Denby’s own coloured slip glazes.

Starting with a step-by-step demonstration, you will learn the techniques needed to create these dishes. Rolling out clay slabs, pressing foliage into the clay, which produces beautiful delicate detailed decoration, and then using our hump moulds to create the three dish shapes. The shapes descend in size so that the finished dishes will neatly nest within each other.

Once all three dishes are made, you can add some colour to enhance the decoration using our coloured slip glazes.

Please feel free to bring along some of your own foliage/flowers, if you would like to. We have found that foliage with deep veins and a spiky texture work well, and flowers such as gypsophila give the best results when pressed.

Once your dishes are fully dry the face of the dishes will be glazed and then fired.

 Join us with friends for a relaxing Crafternoon, where you’ll make a set of two decorative flowers from our Derbyshire clay, pottery tools and colourful slips. Once kiln fired, they’ll be mounted onto garden canes for you to brighten up your outdoor space.

 PRICE: £40.00 per person

What to expect on the day:

Our friendly team will start with a ‘how-to’ demonstration, and share lots of useful hints and tips along the way to help you get the most out of your workshop - you don’t need to be an expert to join us!

Then it’s over to you to make your own set of two ceramic flowers by following our templates and rolling and shaping our stoneware clay to create a 3D flower effect. Keep things simple or add extra detailing to the petals with our decorating tools before painting a layer of white slip over your flowers.

After a cuppa break, it’s time to let your imagination flow and add some colour to your creations with our pottery slip paints.

Left with our team, your clay flowers (one large and one smaller flower) will be fired in our kilns, ready to collect later to display in your spring garden. The garden canes are included too for you to assemble at home.

Throughout this workshop, our team will be on hand to offer you guidance and inspiration (should you need it).

Come and join us for a pottery painting masterclass with our ceramic painting expert and skilled artist, Cathie. Learn painting techniques to create a stunning vase, perfect for displaying your spring blooms.

Design and paint your Denby vase (approx. 6.5 inches tall, 5 inches wide) using our colourful glazes. Leave it with us to fire here in our kilns, ready to collect in two weeks time. Workshops are available:

• Tuesday 23rd April at 12pm-2pm
• Friday 3rd May at 10am -12pm
• Sunday 5th May at 10am-12pm

Toddler Tuesdays

Visit the Denby Craft Studio every Tuesday in term time for our children’s creative craft sessions.

Join us on Toddler Tuesdays for our creative group craft sessions, specially designed for your toddler or pre-schooler. It’s the perfect way for your child to enjoy a range of self-led arts and crafts activities, and to give you a fun and sociable hour to share with other parents, without the stress or mess too!

There’s also a free hot drink included per booking to use at Bourne’s Coffee shop when booking our Toddler Tuesdays session.

Who’s it for: Aimed at toddler and pre-schoolers aged 18 months+. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times, especially when using scissors, glue, or small items that could present a choking risk. 
 
Time: 50-minute sessions, 10am-10.50am.
 
Notes: All activities are self-led but our friendly team will be on hand to offer any support throughout your session. Additional costs apply for adults to also paint a pot and can be paid for on the day.

We will be getting creative with paint, pens and/or clay and therefore recommend that children wear items they don't mind getting messy.
